Seizing Opportunities for Academic Resilience (SOAR)
About Seizing Opportunities for Academic Resilience
Attending a four-year university for the first time is a big step for many students. To assist in this transition, 30 freshmen and first-time transfer students who identify as students of color and/or first generation are invited to attend a four day, three night experience at Loyola University Chicago. Through learning about the transition to college, gaining tools, sharing stories about personal and academic success, SOAR will provide the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with peers, current students, and staff. Join us for a fun, interactive, and reflective experience to begin creating your community at Loyola! This program launched in 2014 and now includes over 100 Loyola Ramblers among its alumni.
*Note—Participants are required to be present for the entire experience. Students living on campus are required to move into their residence hall from 8:00am-11:30am on Monday, August 20, 2018.
August 20–23, 2018 (Monday-Thursday)
First time freshmen & transfer students who are students of color OR who are first generation (first in their family to attend college) are eligible to participate.
SOAR is offered at no cost to students. Participants must first be admitted into SOAR to participate.
The application is now available online and must be completed no later than Friday, June 15, 2018.
