Loyola University Chicago

Diversity and Inclusion at Loyola

Spring 2019 Listening Sessions

Greetings Colleagues:

You may recall our initiative to administer the University’s first diversity campus climate survey at the end of last year. The survey responses provided general insight into the overall climate experienced by our Loyola community members. We would like to meet with small groups of faculty, staff, and students to better understand the context of the responses which influence your cultural experience here at Loyola. Accordingly, we are excited to invite you to participate in one of the upcoming “Listening Sessions”that is scheduled to take place in February or March.

These Listening Sessions are a part of the University’s commitment toward better understanding Loyola’s campus climate. They are designed to take a deep dive into the diversity, inclusion, and equity experiences of our community members. This dialogue will provide valuable insight toward determining the best next steps to enable development, implementation, and review of programs and resources designed to foster and sustain a welcoming, inclusive, respectful, and equitable campus community for each of our members.

Participation
If you would like to participate in one of the Listening Sessions and provide additional input into the analysis and improvement of our campus climate, please email diversitycouncil@luc.edu with your RSVP, including the date and time that you would like to attend. Please refer to the following table.

In an effort to create an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to comfortably and effectively share quality feedback, Listening Sessions are limited to 20 participants per session. The first 20 RSVP’s received in the diversity council email box for the location will be accepted for these sessions. A confirmation email will be sent to accepted faculty, staff, or students by the close of business on the day prior to the scheduled session date.

You are encouraged to participate in one of the Listening Sessions and we hope that you will join us because your input will help to foster a respectful and engaging campus experience for all members of our Loyola community. No advance preparation is required; however, you may review the diversity campus climate survey report which was previously announced and posted online. In the meantime, please direct questions to the diversitycouncil@luc.edu mailbox for assistance.

Thank you in advance for your continued efforts toward fulfilling our commitment to diversity, which comes from Ignatius himself and the Jesuit belief that God is to be found in the “other,”….in the person, the place, the culture, the context, and the human experience that differs from one’s own.
