Terry E Williams Distinguished Alumnus/a Award


The Terry E. Williams Distinguished Alumni Award for the Higher Education program at Loyola University Chicago is presented each year to honor the impact of an alumnus or alumna on the broader higher education community. The award is presented to an individual who embodies the core values of the program and whose practice exemplifies the traditions of a true scholar-practitioner. This person will have had a measurable impact on the field of higher education at either the national, regional, or local level and serves as a symbol of achievement and pride for the program.


Any graduate of either the master’s program or doctoral program in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago is eligible for this award. There are no restrictions on the amount of time that must pass between graduation and nomination; however, the award will typically be presented to individuals with a sustained history of impact on the field.

Nomination Process

Current graduate students or alumni may nominate an individual for consideration by writing a letter of support noting (1) the nature of the person’s impact on the field, (2) evidence that the person’s professional practice reflects the values of the program, particularly a commitment to social justice, and (3) evidence that the person approaches his or her work from the perspective of a true scholar-practitioner. Nomination letters should include the nominee’s full name, job title, mailing address, email, and telephone. Whenever possible, please also include a copy of the individual’s CV or resume. Nomination letters and support material should be submitted electronically to Mark Engberg at mengber@luc.edu. Nominations are accepted year round.
