Teaching and Learning Certificate for Practicing Teachers: International Baccalaureate

* Primary Years Programme
* Middle Years Programme

This certificate program is a ten-credit hour program that leads to eligibility for the IB certificate in teaching and learning. 

Program Outcomes

  • Develop the knowledge and skills to teach in an IB program.
  • Understand and be able to implement the processes of instruction and assessment that take place in IB curriculum, including unit planning, traditional and performance-based assessment, and data-based decision making.
  • Learn to promote learner development using a global, transdisciplinary/interdisciplinary and inquiry-based framework.
  • Be eligible for the IB certificate in teaching and learning.

Primary Years Programme Courses:

Required coursework for the IB certificate (10 credits total)

Summer Semester (late June/early July to early August)

  • TLSC 471: Curriculum Processes PYP (3 credits)
  • TLSC 472: Teaching and Learning in the IB PYP (3 credits)

Fall Semester

  • TLSC 473: Assessment and Learning in the IB PYP (3 credits)
  • TLSC 474: Professional Learning IB PYP (1 credit)

Middle Years Programme Courses:

Required coursework for the IB certificate (10 credits total)

Summer Semester (late June/early July to early August)

  • TLSC 475: Curriculum Processes MYP (3 credits)
  • TLSC 476: Teaching and Learning in the IB MYP (3 credits)

Fall Semester

  • TLSC 477: Assessment and Learning in the IB MYP (3 credits)
  • TLSC 478: Professional Learning IB MYP (1 credit)

Continuous Enrollments
Students in endorsement only programs are required to maintain the status of continuous enrollment during their program of studies. This means that during each semester of each academic year, each student must enroll in at least one course. A formal leave of absence may be granted upon request and the approval of the School of Education’s Associate Dean of Student Academic Services.
