Feature Story

Day on the Hill

Day on the Hill, Washington, DC is sponsored by the national organization American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE). Members are provided an opportunity to meet with their representatives as well as the latest information on education policy from Capitol Hill. The School of Education has always demonstrated a strong presence at this event. This year, Dean Michael Dantley, Associate Dean Anita Thomas, Dr. Anne Marie Ryan, program chair for Teaching and Learning, Dr. Lara Smetana of Teaching and Learning, and Dr. Marla Israel of Administration and Supervision accompanied Phil Hale, Vice President of Government Affairs for this Capitol hill visit. SOE Alumnis Connect

During the spring semester, Loyola University Chicago and The School of Education, hosted two college visits for eighth grade students from Lovett Elementary in Chicago and William F. Gurrie Middle School in La Grange. Both visits were prompted by the shared commitment Dr. LeViis Haney (EdD ‘), Glenn Schlichting and Kathy Stone have for their students to attend college. For most, this was their first time on a college campus.

Faculty Profile

Steven Brown, Ph.D.

The School of Education proudly announces our first recipient of the Walter P. Krolikowski, S.J Endowed Chair, Dr. Steven Brown, Professor. The award is given to a tenured full professors in the School of Education who has demonstrated distinction or excellence in research in their discipline . The endowed chair was developed to recognize the legacy of Fr. K, as students liked to call him. Walter P. Krolikowski, S.J., PhD (1923–2007), helped prepare thousands of educators over five decades. He served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1964 to 1970 and was central in developing programs to prepare educators. Read more

Commencement 2014

Graduates at this year’s commencement were given a challenge by Professor Grant (Med ’62) –“ It is the challenge(s) that awaits you as educators and my love for the City about which Carl Sandburg writes “Come and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be alive… and strong…” that I want to direct my remark and ask: What ‘verse’ will you contributed to your students’ education and lives.” Read more

C. Maeve Kendall (MA ’14)

Cultural and Educational Policy Studies (CEPS) MA student C. Maeve Kendall was awarded the 2014 Thesis of the Year award as part of the Loyola Graduate School Commencement Ceremony on May 7, 2014. Maeve Kendall leaves Loyola as an extraordinary new alum! Read more
