Criteria and Nomination Process
Distinguished Alumnus/a Award
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented each year to honor the impact of alumni on the broader education community. The award is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments, affiliations, and careers have honored the legacy of excellence in the school. Recipients of this award are accomplished in three distinct areas; professional achievement, service to society and service and support to the School of Education.
Any graduate of the School of Education from a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral program is eligible for this award. There are no restrictions on the amount of time that must pass between graduation and nomination; however, the award will typically be presented to individuals with a sustained history of impact on their profession. Recipients will be accomplished in the three distinct areas as outlined below. This distinction will be reflective of the School of Education’s Conceptual Framework – Professionalism in the Service of Social Justice.
- Professional Achievement – the recipient will have had a measurable impact on the field of education at either the national, regional, or local level or serves as a symbol of achievement and pride for the program.
- Service to Society – the recipient exhibits integrity and his/her personal and professional practice demonstrates a commitment to social justice.
- Service and Support to School of Education – the recipient demonstrates a commitment to the continued success of the School of Education and Loyola University Chicago.
Current graduate students or alumni may nominate an individual for consideration by writing a letter of support noting
- the nature of the person’s impact on the field;
- evidence that the person’s professional practice reflects a commitment to social justice, and
- evidence that the person demonstrated commitment to the success of the School of Education and Loyola University Chicago.
Nomination letters should include the nominee’s full name, job title, mailing address, email and telephone. Whenever possible, please also include a copy of the individual’s CV or resume and any other documents that support this candidate’s nomination. Nomination letters and support material should be submitted electronically to Nancy Goldberger at email@example.com. Nominations are accepted year round.
The award will be presented at the School of Education Fall Alumni Brunch. The Awardees and nominators are encouraged to attend along with all other alumni, staff, faculty and friends of the School of Education.
