SOE Faculty Publish 2019 Volume of Review of Research in Education

On May 21, the American Educational Research Association (AERA) released the 2019 volume of Review of Research in Education (RRE).  Focused on the theme “Changing Teaching Practice is P-20 Educational Settings,” the volume was edited by Terri Pigott and Ann Marie Ryan with Charles Tocci serving as the associate editor.  RRE is one of the flagship journals in education research and is published by the oldest and largest professional association for educational researchers in the United States, AERA.  To serve as the editors, Dr. Pigott, Ryan, and Tocci submitted a proposal to an open call for editors, and their pitch to lead journal for two editions was accepted by AERA’s Journal Publication Committee.

 

RRE volume 43 consists of 16 chapters selected from an initial 174 proposals.  Each chapter examines an piece of the larger puzzle about how teaching practice changes in intentional, coordinated, sustained, and responsive ways.  Written by authors ranging from renowned leaders in education research to early-career scholars and doctoral candidates, the chapters various explore the history of teaching practice, ways to build capacity to change practice, what kinds of change have been attempted, and what we are learning and newer, emerging changes.   Taken as a whole, this volume presents a compelling profile of what we know about change to teach practice and provides a vantage point on where future research can and might go.

 

Drs. Pigott, Ryan, and Tocci will again edit the 2021 volume of RRE on the theme “Quality of Research Evidence in Education: How do we know?”
