Professor Emeritus Joyce Wexler publishes two new books on Joseph Conrad

Professor Emeritus Joyce Wexler, who taught at Loyola for over twenty years and served as English Department chair for ten before retiring in 2020, has published two new books on Joseph Conrad this year.

Her monograph, Joseph Conrad and Terrorism Todayexplores Conrad's depiction of "anarchists and police as counterparts driven by the human desires for autonomy and affiliation," using both modern reserach in Terrorism Studies and postcritique to make the case that Conrad's politics are more hopeful than is commonly belived.

Dr. Wexler's edited essay collection, Joseph Conrad and Postcritiqueis closely related, using a posticritical analysis of Conrad's central texts to uncover hopefulness and humanism alongside his better-known examinations of greed, cruelty, and fear.
