Gilman Incentive Grants (GIGs)

How to apply

$250 Gilman Incentive Grants for Undergraduates

To apply for a GIG, you must submit the following prior to the appropriate deadline: 1) online cover sheet, and 2) a draft of a completed application, including all essays. Applicants should carefully consult the Gilman Scholarship website for information on the Gilman mission, eligibility, and online application instructions.

Deadlines:

Gilman Scholarship applications are commonly due in the first week of October and first week of March. This year’s deadlines are as follows:

  • Spring 2018 and early Summer 2018: October 3, 2017
  • Summer 2018, Fall 2018, and academic year 2018–19: March 2018

Important Note: GIG deadlines occur before the Gilman deadline.

  • Spring 2018 and early Summer 2018: September 25, 2017
  • Summer 2018, Fall 2018, and academic year 2018–19: February 2018

Decisions:

Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee, comprised of the Loyola Fellowship Director, Fellowship Coordinator, and associated advisors. Applications will be judged primarily on the strength and quality of the proposal as the student’s “first draft”. Grants will be awarded soon after the final Gilman application is submitted, and funds will be credited to the student’s cost of attendance for the following semester or summer term.
