Dr. Barbara Jaffee is a historian of Modern and American art and design and professor emerita at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb. Her research and writing, which focuses on unconventional narratives of the origins and development of modernism in the United States, can be found in various publications including Art Journal, Design Issues, and Panorama, the online Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art.

Dr. Jaffee has received grants and awards including from the J. Paul Getty Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Henry Luce Foundation/American Council of Learned Societies. She received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Chicago.
