Dr. Barbara June Eason-Watkins, EdD ’99
Barbara June Eason-Watkins (EdD ’99) is a lifelong educator devoted to collaborative education. She became superintendent of the Michigan City Area Schools on July 1, 2010. Her top priorities are strengthening the instructional core, expanding college and career opportunities, and making Michigan City a system of choice for families and students. Dr. Eason-Watkins works collaboratively with partners in higher education, business, and industry. She was honored as the 2015 Most Influential Woman in Education in Northwest Indiana, selected by the Michigan City Commission for Women as the “2016 Woman of the Year,” and recognized as a 2016 regional “Innovation Fellow” by Ivy Tech Community College.
Dr. Eason-Watkins received a doctorate in education— with a specialty in curriculum and instruction—from Loyola University Chicago. She also earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision. She is married to Dr. Irvin Watkins, is the mother of one son, and has one granddaughter.
