Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing
Dr. Judith Kosloskus Scully (BSN '62) is professor emeritus of the School of Nursing and a member of LUC Board of Trustees, where she serves as chairwoman of the Academic committee. In her 23 year tenure at Loyola, she was known for her advocacy on behalf of at-risk students and for her commitment to provide health care to vulnerable populations. The culmination of Dr. Scully’s advocacy for universal health care was the development of a School Based Health Center at Proviso East High School, Maywood, a model of a nurse-managed primary health care center, providing over 2000 health visits to adolescents each year. She served as its first Director.
Dr. Scully quietly and effectively makes a difference in people’s lives, demonstrating the Jesuit values of social justice and concern for others. For the past 18 years, she has worked with Link, Inc. and Austin Career Center to provide scholarships and mentoring to low-income minority students. She was the first recipient of the School of Nursing’s Spirit of Ignatius award and received awards from the Maywood Chamber of Commerce for her efforts on behalf of teens at Proviso East.
