Summer Graduate Interns

Each summer, FSYA hires graduate interns, who serve as part of the advising team. Core responsibilities include administrative and programmatic support of the academic advising components of Loyola University Chicago Orientation (LUCO). This professional experience provides opportunities in program planning, design, and implementation; database and technical management; academic advising; and administration of academic support initiatives and orientation programs.

Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the production of customized academic advising information packets for incoming students.
  • Serve as an FSYA liaison to New Student Programs staff and Hub advisors to ensure clear communication of up-to-date student information for each orientation program, including registration, academic interests, and placement testing.
  • Produce orientation-related materials used to directly support advisors and students.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for advisors and students during actual registration process.
  • Help facilitate small group and/or individual advising sessions in collaboration with professional staff.
  • Serve as resource for students, orientation leaders, and parents regarding Loyola services and resources.
  • Manage change of registration website, facilitating student schedule change requests in accordance with academic requirements.
  • Actively collaborate with FSYA team to achieve ongoing process improvement.
  • Assist staff with administrative tasks and correspondence.
  • Explore additional opportunities that may be available based on individual interests, abilities, and FSYA’s needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Earned bachelor’s degree (by position start) in any discipline.
  • Unencumbered availability during peak prep/orientation periods (from mid-May through mid-July) with additional availability through mid-August.
  • Previous experience and/or professional interest in academic advising, college orientation/event coordination, and/or student affairs is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency and comfort using programs and functions associated with Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft.
  • Comfort and trustworthiness working with large data sets and sensitive personal information.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency working with college students in individual and group settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Appreciation for Jesuit education traditions.

Dates of Engagement:  May 17, 2021 – August 13, 2021 (start/end dates are approximate and somewhat flexible)

Compensation:  $15 hourly pay rate. This is a full-time position (~37.5 hours/week).

Location: TBD whether role will be conducted remotely or in person; dependent on when FSYA staff return to campus. If in person, this role will take place at Lake Shore Campus.
