How have you benefited from the Gannon Scholars program?

The Gannon Scholars have given me the opportunity to access invaluable mentorship, professional development, leadership resources, and most importantly a weekly boost of academic and personal confidence! Since entering the program, I have been able to navigate college with a greater support system and network than the average student.

What are you interested in researching? Why?

I am conducting an immigration policy review of Chicago’s sanctuary city policies and their correlation to the Chicago Police Department’s abuse of gang databases. To me, this research represents the fear and paranoia that has been consuming my community for as long as I can remember. I hope to shed light on the systemic tools of violence that have been used to target and criminalize Black and Brown Chicagoans.
