The Graduate School

A Message from Dean Barman

August 25, 2020
Dear Graduate Students,

It is my pleasure as the new Dean of the Graduate School to welcome you to the Fall semester here at LUC — whether as a new or returning graduate student.

I joined Loyola in early July of this year and I’ve been busy since then learning about the details of graduate education here.

My goal as the Dean of the Graduate School at LUC is to ensure that all graduate students are receiving the holistic personal, social, and professional support they need for success in their graduate education. I also am deeply aware that the past several months have been difficult and unsettling in many ways and that we are now entering a remote Fall semester which poses its own distinct challenges: here in the Graduate School we are redoubling our efforts to ensure suitable and comprehensive support and services are available to you.

The Graduate School’s success in these goals is best achieved by working closely and collaboratively with multiple university constituencies, including our graduate students. We are always interested in your ideas and input. If you ever have a question, concern, or suggestion, I hope you will reach out to the Graduate School. While the office of the Graduate School will be closed this semester, we are offering Virtual Office Hours. I will be holding regular coffee hours on Zoom that will be open on a drop-in basis to all graduate students and I hope to see you there (details to come in Graduate School Announcements). I’ll also be meeting regularly with representatives from our graduate student groups.

I look forward to getting to know you and I wish you a healthy and productive Fall semester.

Emily Barman, PhD
