Congratulations, 2020 Graduates!
Dear 2020 Graduates of the Graduate School,
Although the commencement exercises for the Graduate School will hopefully take place later in the summer, I wanted to reach out to you to say how much I will miss shaking your hand and congratulating each of you personally, as you walk across the stage with your degree or certificate. This is always a genuine highlight of my academic year. Please be assured of my warmest wishes and blessings. You have accomplished much during your time at Loyola and have witnessed within your own lives the power of a transformative Jesuit education.
In your wildest dreams, you could not have imagined your graduate studies ending as they have. I want to thank you for your resiliency and patience. The pandemic has forced you to forego so many of the treasured rituals of the graduation season: spending time with friends, presenting your research, participating in the awards ceremonies of your respective departments, celebrating what awaits you after graduation and the in-person good byes.
I want to thank you for all that you have contributed to making Loyola University such an inclusive, supportive and welcoming community.
Let me also thank your families for being sources of encouragement and support.
Finally, I would like to thank the amazing faculty and staff at Loyola for guiding and mentoring you throughout your graduate experience.
I wish you every success in your future endeavors.
