Next Generation PhD
Welcome to the home of Charting Career Pathways, Loyola's Next Generation Humanities PhD project, an initiative sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities aimed at transforming graduate education so that graduates can embark confidently on careers beyond the academy.
The humanities doctorate is not a vocational degree. It does not prepare students to follow only one career path - that of a college or university professor. Rather, the PhD provides graduates with a breadth and depth of knowledge of their field of study, as well as a variety of skills that are sought after by employers in the 21st century.
Throughout the 2016-2017 academic year, the Graduate School will hold a series of professional development workshops and a symposium to enhance graduate students' practical skill sets and offer guidance for exploring career opportunities. In addition, this website is designed to offer Loyola graduate students the resources they need to see themselves as prepared for multiple career possibilities, to discover new career pathways, and to move forward into a fulfilling career after graduation.
