Vaccine Information

In an effort to further protect the health and safety of our community—particularly as we navigate the impact of the highly transmissive omicron variant—Loyola will now require students, faculty, and staff to receive a booster shot of a COVID-19 vaccine. All students, faculty, and staff are now required to receive a booster shot of a COVID-19 vaccine and upload proof to Loyola Health by Monday, February 21. If you have not already, get boosted now and upload the information through Loyola Health at LUC.edu/vaxupload.

SHIELD Illinois COVID-19 Test

Loyola University Chicago is proud to partner with SHIELD Illinois to administer its saliva-based COVID-19 test method that was developed by the University of Illinois. Having a robust, community-wide surveillance testing program is critical to Loyola’s ability to continue on-campus instruction and residence.

The saliva-based COVID-19 test is a non-invasive test that simply requires an individual to deposit a saliva sample into a provided vial at an on-campus testing site. Saliva samples are then transported to a network of lab partners who will process the sample and return results to both Loyola and the individual who was tested within 24 hours. Loyola students, faculty, and staff can monitor their results and schedule future testing appointments using the Point N Click patient portal.

This applies to all students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors regardless of vaccination status. Outdoors: If fully vaccinated, masks are not required outdoors, but encouraged when attending a large gathering or event. If not fully vaccinated, masks are required outdoors especially when social distancing cannot be maintained like at a large gathering or event.
Vaccinations	Vaccine required for all students, faculty, and staff for AY 2021-22 (medical or religious exemptions must be approved); all students must upload their COVID-19 vaccination cards by no later than Friday, August 6 to attend in-person fall classes, events or activities. Loyola guests will continue to show their Health App at guest sign-in. All guests are required to be masked in common spaces (lobbies, elevators, lounges, kitchens, laundry rooms, and hallways) and are strongly encouraged to remain masked in resident rooms/apartments. A maximum of two guests will be allowed in any unit at one time. Overnight guests are still not permitted at this time. The guest policy may be modified at any time due to an increase in guest policy violations or COVID-19 positivity on campus.

New students must upload their COVID-19 vaccination cards by no later than Monday, January 10 to attend in-person spring classes, events or activities. New faculty and staff must upload their vaccination cards and boosters when eligible on or before their first day of employment.

Visitors	Individual, small, and large group(s) of visitors/guests are allowed. Beginning April 11, 2022, all campus visitors—including students, faculty, staff, guests, volunteers, and vendors—ages five and older must provide proof that they are up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This means a person has received all recommended doses in their primary series COVID-19 vaccine and a booster dose when eligible. Students removing their mask to take a drink is acceptable but removing the mask to eat is not—students who need to eat during class should document that accommodation with the Student Accessibility Center.

University Sponsored Travel Policy	If vaccinated and boosted when eligible, domestic travel is allowed; international travel is allowed (within State Department guidance and at discretion of department leadership); exercise caution when traveling to areas with substantial or high COVID-19 virus transmission; compliance with City of Chicago emergency travel order required upon return.
