University Travel Restrictions

If vaccinated, domestic travel is allowed; international travel is allowed (within State Department guidance and at discretion of department leadership); exercise caution when traveling to areas with substantial or high COVID-19 virus transmission; compliance with City of Chicago emergency travel order required upon return.

If you are planning to travel, please review the CDC Guidelines for domestic travel and international travel, which provide information on what to do before your trip and upon your return.

Update: December 15, 2020

With the ongoing concern for international and domestic travel amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, Loyola has put in place the following university-wide restrictions:

Faculty, staff, and students are prohibited from traveling on any University-sponsored trip;

  • Exceptions to this University-sponsored travel prohibition will be rare. Any requests for exceptions must made in writing and include an explanation of why this travel is essential at this time and include the approval(s) of applicable chair, department director, dean, vice provost, or vice president.
  • Requests for exceptions in academic affairs, colleges, and schools will be approved the Office of the Provost (Provost) and exceptions for all other areas will be approved by the Office of the President (Senior VP for Administrative Services).
  • The University will not pay or reimburse for any University-sponsored travel not approved by the Provost or Office of the President in advance of any such travel. Any expenses incurred for unapproved travel will become the faculty member, staff member, or student’s personal responsibility.

Faculty, students, and staff are cautioned to avoid personal travel. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), postponing travel and staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. Faculty, students or staff who must travel for personal reasons must comply with the City of Chicago’s Emergency Travel Order before returning to campus and should reference the CDC’s travel considerations before traveling.

Updates to the University Travel Restrictions during this pandemic will be posted as necessary. Please check back on this website for any changes.
