Summer Experience for the History Department

Undergraduate

Luke Avila and James Karnezis conducted research for Dr. Bucholz's latest project. Tess Powers was Museums Collection intern at The Sembrich last summer, and focused on gaining a foundation in museum work. Kevin Skiera was curatorial intern at the Museum of Science and Industry, involved in research, writing, exhibition tours, and cataloging.

 

Graduate

BA/MA student Noah Kelly interned at the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center. His work included overhauling their oral history collection and writing a proposal to the board on ways to address some potentially controversial materials on display. US History/Public History PhD student Anthony Stamilio served as Curatorial Intern at the Winnetka Historical Society designing programs, processing collections, and assisting with exhibits. US History PhD student Nathan Ellstrand participated in multiple internships over the summer including research for ongoing book projects, creating transcriptions in the Women and Leadership Archives, and helping coordinating a program for the Chicago Cultural Alliance. Karis Blaker (MA Public History/MLIS student) created an illustrated digital timeline of Frances Willard's life for the Women’s Christian Temperance Movement Archives. Elizabeth Schmidt (recent MA Public History alum) finished up her initial planning and design work for the Black Women of the WCTU project. United States PhD student Matt Norvell researched the history of racial discrimination in the west suburbs for the Unvarnished Project at Naperville Heritage Society. Keeley Shoudel (MA Public History), worked as Collections Management Intern at Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library. Kenleigh Howard (MA Public History) worked producing inventory records, transcriptions, and preliminary processing of collections at the Women and Leadership Archives. Janki Patel (MA History) held a research internship with the Pacific Atrocities Education located in San Francisco, California, focusing on World War 2 with India's Independence. Mary Cole Daulton (MA Public History) served as education programs intern at the Illinois Holocaust Museum. Public History MA student Dana Gordon, researched the lives of Pullman residents for interpretative tours at the Historic Pullman Foundation. Recent PhD graduate Rachel Madden worked with the Oriental Institute, transforming an exhibit on the development of writing in Egypt and Mesopotamia into a digital resource.
