Alum Maria Reynolds, Ph.D., Combines Ice Skating and History
Alum Maria Reynolds, Ph.D., currently works as a curator at Staatsburg State Historic Site in Staatsburg, NY. However, before she came to Loyola University to earn her Ph.D., she grew up loving to ice skate. She competed and won several gold medals throughout high school and college and paused to focus on her graduate education. After she graduated, she picked up competitive skating once again. Reynolds was also recently featured in a news article by the Poughkeepsie Journal on her love for ice skating and history.
Reynolds will be sharing her knowledge and love of figure skating and the Gilded Age at a two-hour tea-and-talk series on February 22nd 1-3 PM. She helped create "Gilded Age Tea & Talk: Art on Ice: Gilded Age Figure Skating'", event that has sold out a few times before. Those in attendance "explore the popularity of skating during the many winters of the Gilded Age at Staatsburg State Historic Site's monthly tea and talk". For more information on the series, visit the historic site's event page.
