Mission Priorities

Dear Loyola Community, 

We are pleased to announce the completion of the self-study and peer review phase of the Mission Priority Examen, a collaborative community version of one of the helpful tools for ongoing improvement from St. Ignatius.

In November and December, more than 90 small groups across all of our campuses came together to inquire how we live our Jesuit mission in this time and era at Loyola University Chicago. Nearly 800 students, faculty, and staff participated. 

Their input was collected into Loyola’s Mission Priority Self-Study and provides a rounded picture of the ways we strive to fulfill our Jesuit educational mission. It indicates where there are opportunities to deepen our work and respond to the challenges of today. From the process, priorities emerged around mission structure, programming, assessment, and hiring. These priorities provide a framework and direction for our 2025 strategic planning process which begins this fall. 

We encourage you to review the Executive Summary and the full report as well as the Peer Visitor Committee report, which comes out of the committee’s review of the Self-Study and face-to-face meetings on our campuses. We also invite you to take part in Lunch and Learn sessions organized by Janet Sisler, vice president for mission integration, to review the report and discuss our path going forward.

The energetic participation of our community in the Mission Priority Examen is evidence of our deep commitment to the ongoing evolution of Loyola and our Jesuit educational mission. We are committed to a continuing process of self-inquiry that deepens our knowledge and improves our practices to understand the world and serve others. We look forward to exploring this report and to following our community-wide strategic discussions.
