Need a Flu Shot?

September 17, 2021

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Fall is near, and flu season is not far behind. Loyola University Chicago will be offering free flu shots to faculty and staff only at the Lake Shore, Water Tower, and Health Sciences campuses beginning in October. Visit the Health Maintenance Institute website to sign up for an on-site flu shot appointment in October or November.

Additionally, there are alternate ways to obtain your flu shot now:

  • Make an appointment with your network primary care doctor;
  • Visit one of Aetna’s in-network pharmacies or retail locations; or
  • Walk-in or schedule a flu shot at a MinuteClinic® location within select CVS Pharmacy® and Target® locations.

Medical Coverage
All Aetna medical plan participants will need to present their Aetna insurance card when receiving their flu shot, even at retail pharmacies. Flu shots are offered through the Aetna medical insurance benefit only, and flu shots are free to participants who visit Aetna in-network providers. We encourage you to stay healthy and take advantage of this preventive health service.

If you have any questions or would like more information on any of the topics in this message, please contact Human Resources at benefits@LUC.edu, and we will follow up with additional guidance.

We wish our entire Loyola community health and wellness.

Sincerely,
Human Resources

FAQs
None of the providers or locations are convenient for me. Can I go anywhere to get my flu shot?

You are strongly encouraged to use an Aetna in-network provider. If a member obtains a flu shot from a non-participating provider, payment for the flu shot will be required at the time of administration. You can submit a claim for reimbursement, but it will be applied to your out-of-network benefits and not covered at 100 percent.

How long does the flu shot vaccine last?
The duration of the vaccine is six months.
