University Holiday Closure Update

Dear Faculty and Staff,

The festive holiday season is fast approaching, and we are all looking forward to this precious time. As we acknowledge the holiday season of giving, along with our commitment to cura personalis, we are pleased to announce an additional gift of paid holiday time to provide greater opportunity for self-reflection, rejuvenation, and quality time with family and friends.

Loyola University Chicago will close for the holidays at the end of the day on Friday, December 20, and will remain closed December 23 through January 1. Monday, December 23 will be added to the identified University Observed Holidays and University Closure Days this year. Staff will receive full pay during this period, and will not be required to use any accrued vacation or personal days during the closure period. However, additional paid time-off following the closure will require the use of personal time beginning January 2, 2020. Please note that any remaining 2019 personal days will need to be used by Friday, December 20.

As in previous years, we know that some staff members will be needed on campus to provide support during this closure period. To those employees, thank you for your commitment. Please know that your department managers will work with you directly to ensure that you are able to take advantage of this gifted time 45 days before or after the closure period. We are also asking all department heads to prepare plans for their area to ensure that critical business functions continue during this period and are handled remotely, where possible.

We appreciate your continued support to Loyola and hope that the additional holiday time will help you to renew for the upcoming year.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,
