Certificate in Parish Health and Pastoral Care Ministry

The Institute of Pastoral Studies partners with Catholic Extension in offering education and scholarships to pastoral workers who are involved in ministries where they are frequently called upon to respond to the physical or psychological issues of their community.

The IPS Parish Health and Pastoral Care Ministry Certificate program is a weeklong intensive that assists parish and diocesan pastoral ministers in treating congregations as places of wellness of mind, body, and spirit. In addition to being places of faith, parishes are frequently called upon to respond to the physical and psychological health needs of their communities. Often, pastoral workers on the front lines responding to such needs have not received any training on how to provide the best support. The Parish Health and Pastoral Care Ministry Certificate program offers participants the practical education needed to increase their competence and confidence in responding to  such various community physical, psychological, and spiritual health demands. This enriching educational opportunity is a good fit for both persons working in existing health-related pastoral ministries or those interested in creating new health-related ministries at either parish or diocesan levels. Representative ministries include those serving persons with addictions; work with those involved with domestic violence; nutrition and physical health referrals; ministry to the sick or dying.
