Templates and Tips

Button Templates

To get results that best match the vision for your button project, we highly recommend laying out your intended button file on one of our button templates. The templates are available in all three sizes as Powerpoint and Adobe Illustrator files. As a reminder Loyola students and staff have access to Adobe Illustrator at all by logging into Adobe Creative Cloud with their UVID.

Why use a template?

Most images from our phones or online are rectangular, but our buttons are circular in shape. We strive to ensure the subject ofyour submitted image is properly scaled and placed to fill the button size requested, but depending on the image there may be concerns. Common issues are blank space on the edges when scaled to size, or lack of clarity on the image subject. In the event the provided image file raises concerns we may contact submitters to seek confirmation to proceed with printing or to ask for a new image file. To avoid this processing delay, using our template allows you to arrange your art file exactly as intended.

Can I just submit art that's already in a circle?

Yes! Basing your file in a cirlce is extremely helpful and will get you towards a product that looks as indended. There is still the risk that text or other elements may start to curve around the edge and disappear depending on how much of a margin you leave. We still recommend using the templates to check how much of the edges of your circular art will be visible on the face of the button, and adjusting your file as desired.

Button Sizes

On an open palm sit three buttons of different sizes, each with a picture of a snail.

We offer three sizes of round pin-back buttons. If you can't decide which size is right for you, here are some descriptions of the common uses of the sizes we offer.

1" Buttons - Small

This is the smallest button size we offer. It is a common size for the pins bands sell and can accumulate nicely when pined on jackets or bags.

Great for: logo buttons, scavenger hunt treasures, giveaways

1.5" Buttons - Medium

This is our medium button size. Only slightly bigger than the 1 inch, still the extra 1/2-inch gives more space for design or text to shine. This size is more visible and still very wearable on your coats, backpacks, etc.

Great for: events souveniers, artist works, fan buttons, button collectors

2-1/4" Buttons - Large

This button is our largest button size. It's not absurdly large, but it is highly visible so it's ideal for nametags, identifying staff/volunteers, and is common in political campaigns and elections. There's more space for text at an easily readable font size.

Great for: nametags, events, elections, conferences
