Home Use of Quantitative and Qualitative Research Applications

Faculty Home Use

Faculty are responsible for installing the software packages noted below. If issues arise during the installation, they must be addressed with the technical support department of the software vendor.

  • NVivo 12 Plus Full-time faculty members at the university with a Loyola desktop association to NVivo 12 are eligible for free home use of the software (single installation). To obtain NVivo for home use, contact ITSServiceDesk@luc.edu; 8-4487. Please specify your operating system as NVivo 12 has both Windows and Mac versions.
  • IBM SPSS Modeler 18 Full-time faculty members at the university may obtain a free copy of IBM SPSS Modeler 18 for home use (single installation). For home use, contact ITSServiceDesk@luc.edu; 8-4487. Please specify your operating system as SPSS Modeler has both Windows and Mac versions.
  • IBM SPSS Statistics 26 Faculty members may obtain a copy of IBM SPSS Statistics 26 for free home use (single installation). This package includes SPSS Base, SPSS Tables™, SPSS Advanced Models™, and SPSS Regression Models™. Upgrades are available for as long as the faculty member remains at Loyola. To request home use, fill in the ITS Service Desk's SPSS Statistics Home Use form.

    Faculty who want access to more modules than those included in the Loyola license can purchase the IBM SPSS Statistics 26 Faculty Pack available from e-academy. The Faculty Pack includes the full SPSS Base product, with no limitations, plus 13 additional add-on modules for extended functionality. The add-on modules include: IBM SPSS Advanced Statistics, IBM SPSS Regression, IBM SPSS Conjoint™, IBM SPSS Categories, IBM SPSS Custom Tables, IBM SPSS Forecasting, IBM SPSS Exact Tests (Windows only), IBM SPSS Complex Samples, IBM SPSS Missing Values, IBM SPSS Data Preparation, and IBM SPSS Decision Trees, IBM SPSS Neural Networks, and IBM SPSS Direct Marketing (formerly EZ RFM), and IBM SPSS Bootstrapping. The license for this package is a one-year, non-renewable, single user license and includes technical support.

  • SAS 9.4 Full-time faculty members at the university may obtain SAS 9.4 for free home use (single installation). Upgrades are available for as long as the faculty member remains at Loyola. For home use, contact ITSServiceDesk@luc.edu; 8-4487. Note: SAS 9.4 is not available for Mac operating systems.
  • Stata/IC 16 Stata/IC 16 can be accessed off-campus for no charge via Apporto. Use the General Lab launch icon. Faculty can also rent Stata for home use via the campus grad plan.
  • SYSTAT 13 Full-time faculty members at the university may obtain SYSTAT for home use (single installation). Upgrades are available for as long as the faculty member remains at Loyola. For home use, contact ITServiceDesk@luc.edu; 8-4487.

Student Home Use

Students are responsible for installing the software packages noted below. If issues arise during the installation, they must be addressed with the technical support department of the software vendor.

  • HLM SSILive, the new owner of SSICentral, no longer offers a free student version of the software. There is a free trial of the full package for 14 days. The package can be rented ($65.00 for three months; $225.00 for 12 months).
  • Lisrel  SSILive, the new owner of SSICentral, no longer offers a free student version of the software. There is a free trial of the full package available for 14 days. The package can be rented ($225.00 for 12 months).
  • IBM SPSS Modeler 18 Students have two options for free off-campus use of IBM SPSS Modeler:
    • Installation on one personal computer - contact ITSServiceDesk@luc.edu to request the software adn note your operating system.
    • Web access via Apporto (use the General Lab launch icon).
  • IBM SPSS Statistics 26 Students have two options for free off-campus use for IBM SPSS Statistics:
    • Installation on one personal computer - please fill out the ITS Service Desk's SPSS Statistics Home Use form to request the software. The license is good for the academic year and must be renewed for subsequent academic years. Licenses expire on June 30 of every year. Contact ITSServiceDesk@luc.edu for a license renewal.
    • Web access via Apporto (use the General Lab launch icon).

      The university license includes the following modules: Base, Advanced Models, Custom Tables, and Regression. Note: Students who require additional modules that are not included under the university license, e.g., Categories, Decision Trees, Missing Values, etc., can rent the IBM SPSS Statistics Premium GradPack. This version of the GradPack includes both the Advanced Models and Regression Models modules offered by LUC plus 13 additional modules.  The GradPack is available in Windows, Mac, and Linux formats. You will need to carefully check the SPSS Statistics version numbers available for Mac and Linux. All packages have no case or variable limits.  While the university is supporting version 26, we advise you rent the latest version, 27, for the Grad Pack. The IBM SPSS Statistics GradPack 27 licenses are good for only one year, are for home use only, and allow for two separate installs. You must be currently registered as a student to rent the GradPack. Rentals are available from a number of vendors although the availability of each package and the version depends on the vendor. Please check the web sites of the following online merchants for these packages: e-academy; Studica; and Studentdiscounts. The Loyola bookstores do not sell the IBM SPSS Statistics GradPack.
  • Minitab 19 – Minitab can be accessed off-campus for no charge via Apporto. Use the General Lab launch icon. Students can also students can rent for six months for $30.00. 
  • NVivo 12 Plus Students have two options for free off-campus use:
    • Installation on a personal computer - contact ITSServiceDesk@luc.edu and provide a home or cell number and the operating system of the computer. The license is good for the academic year and must be renewed after June 30 of every year. Contact ITSServiceDesk@luc.edu for a license renewal.
    • Web access via Apporto (use the General Lab launch icon).
  • R & R Studio – Students can download this open-source software for free from the r-project via the preferred CRAN mirror page. You should download the CRAN mirror from the institution that is closest to us, which is Iowa State. You can download Windows, Mac, or Linux versions from this page. There are links to documentation on the left hand side of the page. There is are FAQs on the downloads page for each version.
  • SAS 9.4 Students may obtain SAS 9.4 for home use (single installation). The first installation and upgrades are free for as long as the student remains at Loyola. For home use, contact ITSServiceDesk@luc.eduNote: SAS 9.4 is not available for Mac operating systems. Students can also freely access SAS via SAS on Demand or SAS University.
  • Stata/IC 16 Stata/IC 16 can be accessed off-campus for no charge via Apporto (use the General Lab launch icon). Students can also rent Stata for home use via the campus grad plan.
  • SYSTAT 13 Students can download a trial version of the full package that is good for thirty days or download MYSTAT, the student version of SYSTAT, for free for unlimited time use. Note: SYSTAT and MYSTAT do not run on Mac operating systems.

Home Use of Research Software not Supported by ITS

  • ArcGIS ESRI This application is managed by the Institute of Environmental Studies (IES). The application can be accessed off-campus via Apporto. Use the GPU Lab launch icon.
  • Matlab The application can be accessed via the Cloud or mobile app for student home use.
