Personal Hardware Purchases

Loyola University Chicago does not require students to have a personal computer. However, it is recommended. Whether you purchase a desktop or a laptop computer, it is important to balance quality and performance with cost.

Most computer manufacturers (including Lenovo and Apple) allow you to choose the components in your computer. While this freedom to choose is good, it's easy to become overwhelmed by the variety of options and components that are available. Loyola's ITS staff have system configuration recommendations that you can use when considering your next desktop or laptop purchase. You may also find the following site helpful in making technology purchases, from mobile to desktop, laptop, printers and tablets: CNET Reviews

Once you decide on the computer you want, you can take advantage of the personal purchase discounts available to students, faculty and staff through Dell , Lenovo and Apple.

Note: Information Technology Services does not provide repair or diagnostic service for personally owned computers. The ITS Help Desk is able to provide limited technical support to students connecting to University resources and assist them in resolving computer related issues. Please visit the ITS Help Desk for more information.

Personal Software Purchases

For word processing and other productivity applications, Loyola University Chicago uses the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Current students, faculty or staff, have the ability to not only access Office365, but also full desktop and mobile applications and are able to install on up to five PCs or Macs, tablets or phones for free.  Visit this site for more information.   Students, faculty and staff can purchase Adobe products and other software at Academic Pricing through Varsity Buys.
