Understanding the kind of financial assistance programs for which you may qualify—and how to apply—is an important part of the law school process. We’ve laid out a step-by-step guide for you:

  1. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)—by March 1, if you can. The earliest you can submit the FAFSA is October 1st in the year prior to when you’ll receive aid. Loyola’s code is 001710. The information you submit on the FAFSA is used to determine your federal aid eligibility as well as determine some School of Law need-based awards.
  2. Apply and Complete Your Application. We consider all admitted students for merit scholarships when we review your file for admission. There is nothing additional you need to do. Announcement of your award is included in the admission letter.
  3. Review and Apply for Specialized Scholarships and Fellowships. Review the requirements and application process for these awards. If you are an upperclass student, we have awards just for you.
  4. Review Your Student Aid Report. After completing the FAFSA you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR), which you review and adjust if you find errors.
  5. Determine Your Need. Once you’ve submitted the FAFSA, the U.S. Department of Education will determine your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Loyola uses this information as well as information about University-based awards to determine your federal programs eligibility. We will send you a letter with your full package.
  6. Identify Outside Funding. Whether you use FastWeb or Scholarships.com or use our external funding list, do your research to identify other scholarships and grants for which to apply.
  7. Review Your Credit Report. Your credit report will notify you of any potential credit issues that may affect your ability to obtain certain federal loans.
