2017-2018 Negotiation Team Tryouts

ATTENTION 2Ls and 3Ls:  We are looking to field a second team for this year’s American Bar Association Negotiation Competition!  Come join us for tryouts and enhance your practical advocacy abilities!

Loyola teams consistently excel in this competition, which provides a means for law students to practice and improve their negotiating skills.  The competition simulates legal negotiations in which law students, acting as lawyers, negotiate a series of legal problems.  The simulations consist of a common set of facts known by all participants and confidential information known only to the participants representing a particular side.  All of the simulations deal with the same general topic, but the negotiation situation varies with each round and level of the competition.  This year’s Regional competition is scheduled for early November with the National Finals scheduled for early February.

Tryout Date and Time:

  • Thursday, September 14th at Loyola, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Room 1308

For those of you interested in trying out for the team, please email Gina Gerardi, Asst. Director of the Advocacy Center, at ggerardi@luc.edu, or stop by Room 1027, with your resume and to sign-up for a 15 minute Tryout Timeslot.

To prepare for your Tryout:  you should read the General Facts found HERE.  Confidential Facts will be sent to you for your Client after you submit your resume and confirm a Tryout Timeslot with Gina.  Read both sets of Facts prior to your Tryout and be prepared to negotiate the problem on behalf of your Client for approximately 10 minutes.

Students should plan to be at the tryout room 10 minutes before their scheduled time slot.

Just a reminder that students are only permitted to accept an offer to compete on one advocacy team per academic year.

The Negotiation Team is coached by Adjunct Professors Jamie Michel, Ethan Zelizer, John Liston and Jennifer Woods.  Loyola will compete with two teams of two people, with two alternates slated (one for each team).  Each team member will receive academic credit for their participation.

Please email any questions regarding Tryouts to Gina Gerardi at ggerardi@luc.edu.
