All applicants must complete and provide the following for admission consideration:
- Application Form: Submit a completed online application available at LUC.edu/grad.
- Academic Transcripts: Request that all official transcripts from any undergraduate studies and any graduate studies be submitted directly from the designated Registrar’s Office for each institution. Transcripts must verify completion of a bachelor’s degree and a primary law degree (e.g., JD or LLB).
- Recommendation Letters: Submit two letters of recommendation. Your recommenders must be familiar with your academic or professional performance and provide letters in support of your application. Please provide your recommenders with an overview of the LL.M. degree program and instruct them to specifically address your critical thinking skills and your aptitude for undertaking this study. The LL.M. Admission Committee may also contact your recommenders via telephone or e-mail should it need further clarification of the recommendation.
- Personal Statement: Write 1 to 2 typed pages stating your reasons for applying to the LL.M. degree program and choosing to concentrate your study in this legal concentration. Also, discuss how you anticipate using this education in your career. Include your name on this document and entitle it "Personal Statement". Provide any additional information you believe relevant to the assessment of your application.
- Résumé or Curriculum Vitae: Provide career documents that include an outline of education, work experience, professional and academic honors and achievements, speeches or lectures given, papers presented or published, and any other information you believe relevant in assessing your application.
- Deadline: Each year, the completed application form and all supporting documents must be submitted by July 1.
- Other: A personal interview may be required.
Please note: the following documents are required, in addition to those listed above, for those applicants who may fall into these categories:
- Either an official TOEFL or IELTS score report is required for international applicants. This requirement is waived for those who have completed a four-year bachelor’s, or a master’s degree program in the U.S. Applicants holding a non-U.S. bachelor’s degree and wishing to apply for a waiver must submit U.S. transcripts that show that they have also earned a U.S. master’s degree. The language test is also waived for those who are from, or who have completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree at a recognized institution in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom, at which the language of instruction is English.
- International applicants or U.S. residents who completed school abroad are required to submit non-U.S. transcripts to Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE), www.ece.org, for evaluation of credentials. The general evaluation report with grade average must show that your non-U.S. education is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree to be considered for admission.
