Weekend JD (Sat. sections) - Module 1

Note: Module 1 is an asynchronous module that begins August 15.  See the Legal Writing I Syllabus on your Sakai course for more information. 

Course Texts and Resources: Required and Recommended

The following textbooks are required for Legal Writing:

1. Linda H. Edwards, Legal Writing and Analysis (5th ed. 2019). 

  1. The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020). Print and/or digital subscription options are acceptable for this course.
  2. Legal Writing Program Policy Manual. You are responsible for all information included in this manual.
  3. Legal Writing I Syllabus. You are responsible for all information included in this syllabus.

3. Linda J. Barris, Understanding and Mastering the Bluebook (4th ed. 2020). 

The following style and grammar reference resources are recommended, but are not required:

1. Richard C. Wydick and Amy E. Sloan, Plain English For Lawyers (6th ed. 2019).  

2. A subscription to Carolina Academic Press’s Core Grammar for Lawyers. http://coregrammar.com/getcgl

 

Reading (To prepare in Module 1; both the Legal Writing Program Policy Manual and the Legal Writing I Syllabus are posted to Sakai)

 

Due

  • Student Introduction Document. Submit to Sakai. You can complete the document with as much information as you choose.

For all Legal Writing I assignments, unless otherwise noted, the assignment is due to Sakai (Assignments tool, left tool bar) by 9:30 am on the Saturday in that module.
