Elected in November 2010, Kelly Burke is serving her fourth term as state Representative of the 36th District.
Prior to becoming a representative, Burke served two terms on the Evergreen Park Library Board, including five years as president of the board. From 2006 to 2011, Burke served on the staff of Saint Xavier University as part a team that raised funds for many university programs, improvements, and scholarships.
Prior to joining Saint Xavier University, Burke practiced law for 14 years, focusing on insurance defense and family law. Burke also served as a law clerk to two circuit court judges and was a legislative aide to former State Representative Andrew J. McGann. In 2012 Burke was selected to participate in the inaugural class of the Edgar Fellows program at the University of Illinois, an initiative to promote responsible, responsive, bi-partisan leadership throughout Illinois. Burke currently serves as chair of the Higher Education-Appropriations committee as well as vice-chair of the Health Care Licenses committee.
Kelly received her BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her JD from the John Marshall Law School. The district she represents in the legislature includes the suburbs of Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge, Worth, Palos Hills, Palos Park, and Willow Springs as well as the Beverly, Mount Greenwood, Auburn Gresham and Wrightwood neighborhoods of Chicago.
