Sarah Toney

Attorney Sarah Toney is the Owner of the Toney Law Firm, LLC. She has concentrated in the areas of Criminal and DUI Defense since she was admitted to the bar. In addition, she has been an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University of Chicago School of Law for 12 years where she has been the Clinical Supervisor at Life After Innocence and a mentor for the part time Legal Writing program for the first of it’s kind Weekend JD program. She currently teaches Legal Writing and previously taught an Advanced Writing for Criminal Law class. She attended Miami University where she received a B.S. in Education and Loyola University Chicago School of Law where she received her J.D. Ms. Toney was named Young Lawyer of the Year in 2014 by the Illinois State Bar Association. She is AV rated Preeminent lawyer by Martindale Hubble. Since 2015 she has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer and she has previously been named an Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Star during 2010-2014. In 2016 she was accepted to and attended the 24 day Trial Lawyers College in Wyoming. She served as Chair of the Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council for ISBA in 2013, which she has been appointed to since 2008. She was elected to the Assembly in 2013 and again in 2016 and confirmed as a member of the ISBA LAWPAC since 2012. She has been Chair of the Law Office Management & Economics Committee, the Traffic Law and Courts Committee, and Vice-Chair of Marketing and Communications Committee. She has been Editor of the Traffic Laws and Courts Newsletter for the past 10 years. She is also appointed a CLE Chair of the Women and the Law Committee and serves on the Solo and Small Firm Planning Institute Committee.

Ms. Toney has been invited to speak by the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Illinois State Bar Association at various seminars. She previously sat on the Member Events Committee, the Health Benefits and Wellness Committee, and the Athletic Committee of the Union League Club.

She is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, General Federal Bar, United States District Court, Central District of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit.

She is a Founding Member of DUI Defense Lawyers Association, and a member of the National College for DUI Defense, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Women’s Criminal Defense Bar Association. She is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association and Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
