Access to Bloomberg Law, Lexis, and Westlaw for Continuing Law Students and 2018 Law Graduates

If you are taking classes over the summer, or even if you are graduating, you can still have access to your Loyola Law School Bloomberg Law, Lexis, and Westlaw accounts. Please read on for more detailed access policies for each service.

BLOOMBERG LAW

Graduating 3L students may continue to use their Loyola Bloomberg Law accounts for any purpose for six months after they graduate. All other continuing students can use their Loyola Bloomberg Law accounts over the summer for any purpose they choose as well.

LEXIS-NEXIS

Summer Access Policy for Continuing Students

Continuing students have access to their Loyola Lexis accounts for any purpose, academic or commercial. You do not have to do anything to continue your Lexis access over the summer.

Access for Graduating Students

Graduating students will have access to their Loyola Lexis accounts until Dec 31, 2018. After July 1, graduating students’ accounts will automatically go into graduate status. There are no usage restrictions.

WESTLAW

Summer Access Policy for Continuing Students

You can use Thomson Reuters products, including Westlaw and Practical Law, over the summer for non-commercial research. You can turn to these resources to gain understanding and build confidence in your research skills, but you cannot use them in situations where you are billing a client. Examples of permissible uses for your academic password include the following:

  • Summer coursework
  • Research assistant assignments
  • Law Review or Journal research
  • Moot Court research
  • Non-Profit work
  • Clinical work
  • Externship sponsored by the school

You do not have to do anything to gain access to these tools over the summer.

Access for Graduating Students

You have access to Thomson Reuters products, including Westlaw and Practical Law, for six months after graduation. Your “Grad Elite” access gives you 60 hours of usage on these products per month to gain understanding and build confidence in your research skills. While you cannot use it in situations where you are billing a client, Thomson Reuters encourages you to use these tools to build your knowledge of the law and prepare for your bar exam. In addition, you get access to job searching databases on Westlaw and TWEN for 18 months after graduation for one hour a month. You must extend your access by logging into lawschool.westlaw.com.
