About

Svetlana Gitman is a trial attorney at Bruce Farrel Dorn & Associates. Svetlana handles personal injury defense cases from the pleading stages all the way through trial. Svetlana has successfully argued numerous dispositive motions before Cook County judges, conducted over 200 depositions, obtained favorable awards in over 100 arbitrations, and obtained multiple jury verdicts in favor of her clients.

During law school Svetlana interned with the Department of Homeland Security and the State’s Attorney’s Office – Juvenile Justice Department. She also served as an intern to United States District Judge Charles Kocoras and Cook County Chancery Division Judge Stuart Palmer. Svetlana’s Law Review Article, entitled (Dis) Service of Process: The Need to Amend Rule 4 to Comply with Modern Usage of Technology, was published in 2011 by The John Marshall Law Review.

Prior to attending Law School Svetlana lived in London and worked at the Astor Law Firm at the Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn researching and analyzing English and America insurance insolvency laws.

Svetlana is an active member of the bar and the community. She is currently a project officer on the Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Executive Committee and oversees all projects organized by the Young Lawyers Section. In the past Svetlana served as a director and as the chair of the public interest committee. She was awarded the State Farm Pro Bono Award in 2015 for her work with Wills for Heroes, an organization drafting free wills and power of attorney documents for first responders.
