Kevin M. O’Reilly (BA ’83, JD ’88)
is the director of Mexican affairs
at the U.S. Department of State.
A member of the Foreign Service
since 1987, he returned to the U.S.
in August 2012 after a year-long
assignment as director for police
training, anti-corruption, and judicial
reform programs at the U.S. Embassy
in Baghdad, during a period which
included the withdrawal of U.S.
military forces from Iraq.
Jean M. Cocozza (JD ’89)
was sworn
in as a Cook County circuit court
judge in February.
Leslie A. Hairston (JD ’89)
was
honored with the 2013 Donald L.
Hollowell Distinguished Service
Award at Loyola’s Black Law Students
Association Alumni Dinner in April.
She is alderman of the 5th Ward of
the City of Chicago.
Alice O. Martin (JD ’89)
was
recognized as a 2013 Illinois Super
Lawyer in the intellectual property
and intellectual property litigation
practice areas.

1990s
Christine R. Downs (JD ’91
) has
been appointed associate judge of
Illinois’ 16th Judicial Circuit Court.
Kathryn H. Garlow (BBA ’87, JD ’91),
a partner with the law firm Shepard
Schwartz & Harris, has been named
a 2012 Woman to Watch by the
Illinois CPA Society and the American
Institute of CPAs. The award is given
to women in the CPA profession who
have made significant contributions
to the accounting profession, their
organizations, and the development
of women as leaders.
Daniel M. Kotin (JD ’91)
is a partner
at the new Chicago law firm Tomasik
Kotin Kasserman LLC, which opened
its doors in April. Prior to joining the
new firm, he was a partner at Corboy
& Demetrio.
William A. Powel III (LLM ’91)
has
served the past 15 years as system
vice president, general counsel, and
secretary for Summa Health System,
an integrated delivery system based
in Akron, Ohio. He was recently
appointed chancellor in the Episcopal
Diocese of Ohio, where he serves
as legal advisor to the bishop. He
was listed in the 2013 edition of
Best
Lawyers in America
.
Eryk J. Spytek (JD ’94)
is vice
president and associate general
counsel and assistant secretary
at Mead Johnson Nutrition Co. in
Glenview, Illinois.
Maria T. Cenzon (JD ’96)
is a
judge for the Superior Court of
Guam. Prior to her appointment
to the bench, Cenzon worked as
chief legal counsel to Governor of
Guam Eddie Baza Calvo. For 12
years before joining government
service, she worked in private
practice, concentrating on
commercial transactions, insurance
defense, real estate transactions,
administrative law and procedures,
and complex civil litigation. Prior
to her appointment as a judge,
Cenzon served on the board
of governors of the Guam Bar
Association, and as president of the
Guam Legal Services Corporation.
Shehnaz I. Mansuri (JD ’98)
has
been named manager of the Pro Bono
Service Initiative of the Public Service
and Public Interest Law Program at
the University of Chicago Law School.
She joined the University of Chicago
Office of Career Advancement in 2011
after practicing law at Gregory E. Kulis
and Associates.
James P. Moorhead (JD ’99)
recently
formed the Moorhead Law Group
LLC, a Chicago-based law firm with a
national practice in commercial real
estate, conservation, and sports law.
He resides in Chicago with his wife
and two children.

Jeffrey L. Terry (JD ’00)
joined
the Perkins Coie LLP firm as a
senior counsel in the firm’s private
equity practice.
1960s
Gino L. DiVito (BA ’59, JD ’63),
a
partner at Tabet, DiVito, & Rothstein
LLC, was presented with an honorary
doctor of laws degree from Loyola
University Chicago School of Law for
his lasting impact on the Chicago
legal community and the Illinois
justice system. The degree was
presented at the School of Law’s
May commencement ceremony,
where he served as this year’s
commencement speaker (also see
page 5). He was also honored with the
Harold Sullivan Award in December
at a luncheon of the Midyear Meeting
of the Illinois Judges Association and
Illinois State Bar Association.
1970s
Charles P. Amato (JD ’75)
was
recently inducted into the Athletic
Hall of Fame at St. Paul High School
in Norwalk, Ohio.
Michael A. Harring (JD ’75)
has
been elected to the American Law
Institute, the leading independent
organization in the U.S. producing
scholarly work to clarify, modernize,
and otherwise improve the law.
Harring is vice president and deputy
general counsel, North America, with
Deere & Company.
Nathaniel R. Howse Jr. (BA ’73,
JD ’76)
was honored with the 2013
Norman Amaker Award of Excellence
at Loyola’s Black Law Students
Association Alumni Awards Dinner
in April. The award is presented to
an individual who has achieved the
ideals and the model established by
Professor Amaker.
Reynold E. Becker (JD ’78)
leads
government relations for Combined
Insurance in Glenview, Illinois, a
subsidiary of ACE Group.
1980s
Nicholas Anaclerio (JD ’84)
recently joined Vedder Price PC as a
shareholder in the firm’s labor and
employment practice area.
Jay R. Orlowski (BBA ’83, JD ’87)
was elected to partnership at the law
firm Lindsay, Rappaport & Postel LLC,
where he specializes in defending
construction injury, fire loss, product
liability, medical negligence,
premises liability, Wrongful Death
Act, and auto liability cases, as well as
uninsured/underinsured claims and
bad-faith claims.
John M. Janiga (BBA ’79, MBA ’82,
JD ’88)
was one of five professors
from Loyola University Chicago
featured in
The Princeton Review
’s new
book,
The Best 300 Professors,
which
profiles top undergraduate professors
in the U.S. Janiga was the 2011
recipient of Loyola’s Quinlan School
of Business Outstanding Teacher of
the Year Award at the undergraduate
level. He received the Illinois CPA
Society’s Outstanding Educator
Award for Four-Year Institutions.
Articles he coauthored (with Louis
Harrison), “Gimme Shelter—Gifting
