W
e are now winding up a busy and productive year, filled
with interesting opportunities and significant
accomplishments at the School of Law.
Our law school continues to gain national recognition
for its innovative programming, practical training, and outstanding faculty.
This fall, we launched a new program exploring the legal intersection of
national security and civil liberties in the United States.
The Beazley Institute for Health Law and Policy, one of the premier
health law programs in the country, has expanded its offerings to include the
complex and ever-changing area of compliance law.
Our online education continues to expand, making it possible
for professionals around the globe to pursue a graduate degree at the
School of Law.
This fall, we will introduce a new model curriculum ensuring that all
students complete meaningful hands-on learning experiences, helping them
become more practice-ready at graduation. Recognizing our solid track
record in this area, the
National Jurist
just named Loyola 10th among law schools
in the US for experiential learning.
We are grateful to alumna Kathy Byrne (JD ’88) for her recent scholarship
support. As part of
Access to Excellence: The Campaign for Scholarships
,
which offers matching funds to our generous contributors for their scholarship
endowments, Kathy established the Byrne Chicago Scholarship Fund for
part-time law students. We are also indebted to the Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation for its continued commitment to PROLAW, Loyola’s LLM in Rule
of Law for Development.
Also in this issue is a profile of dynamic student Hugo Gallegos, the results
of this year’s student competitions, a research update from Professor John Blum,
and an alumna article from Michelle Kohut (JD ’02).
As always, we salute our alumni and friends for all the ways you support
and stay connected to your alma mater. We are proud to maintain our close-knit
Loyola law community.
