Spring 2014 - Loyola University Chicago School of Law - page 36-37

Beyond the School of Law’s recent accomplishments, there’s lots more happening at
Loyola University Chicago. Here’s a snapshot of the latest Loyola news.
Arch Madness
M
ore than 100 alumni turned out for Loyola’s inaugural Arch Madness, held March 6–9 in St. Louis. The
Ramblers’ first season in the Missouri Valley Conference came to a satisfying conclusion. The men’s team
was victorious 74-72 over Bradley in an opening-round game, the highlight of which was freshman Milton Doyle’s
contested three-pointer at the buzzer. It marked Loyola’s first postseason win since March 2008. The Ramblers were
only 4 points behind second-seeded Indiana State at halftime during the quarterfinals, but they succumbed in the
second half for a final score of 62-75.
Number 35 Milton Doyle is congratulated after his game-winning shot that beat Bradley in the
opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

LUMA
accredited
T
he American Alliance of
Museums has awarded the
Loyola University Museum of Art
(LUMA) the high distinction of
museum accreditation. Of the
17,500 museums in the United
States, only about 1,500 have
received this credential. Says
Pamela Ambrose, director of
cultural affairs at LUMA, “To be
acknowledged as a museum
that operates with the highest
standards means a great deal in
allowing us to seek important loans
of art from around the world.”
Gift supports
new biz school
building
J
ohn G. Schreiber (BBA ’68)
and his wife, Kathy, will give
$10 million to the University’s
Quinlan School of Business. The
gift will go toward construction
of a new facility for the business
school at the corner of State
and Pearson, across the street
from Maguire Hall. The facility,
which will be named the John
and Kathy Schreiber Center, will
offer state-of-the-art classrooms,
faculty offices, and social spaces
that promote learning in and out
of the classroom. In keeping with
the University’s commitment to
sustainability, the building will
feature a sophisticated system
of atria that harness natural
ventilation and daylight for energy
efficiency and comfort.
