Valerie Nielsen

Valerie is a risk, audit and compliance executive with deep experience in the financial and professional services industries. She has extensive background in risk management, internal audit, information security, data analytics, incident response and management, regulatory compliance, fraud investigations, and process design. Valerie has created risk and governance frameworks to effectively integrate with business operations. Skilled at developing data analytics to focus on predictive patterns and trends.

When Valerie joined Aon in 2014, she was asked to create an enterprise risk management function for the Aon Hewitt business unit focusing on risk mitigation and internal control design. Then, in 2017 she started a risk management program for Aon’s Retirement Solutions - Actuarial and Investment Management Business Unit.

Valerie’s career spans working in financial institutions from $1.5B to $2.70T. While at HSBC she held three roles in the North America region: Professional Practices, the Financial Crimes Audit Team and as Chief Audit Executive for Household Finance. Valerie was at ABN AMRO/LaSalle Bank as a Vice President in Group Audit. She developed audit risk assessments of the bank’s wealth management division to include compliance with applicable regulations. In 2000, Valerie started an internal audit department for GE Capital’s Auto Financial Services business. In addition to her internal audit experience, Valerie has held positions as Vice President of technology development and integration and training/development within the business line of a large Community Bank in the Midwest.

Between her time at HSBC and ABN AMRO/LaSalle Bank, Valerie was a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where she had business development and service delivery for internal audit co-sourcing, risk and compliance, SOX 404 and market assessment for new solutions.

In Valerie’s early career, she worked in Reinsurance and Internal Audit with roles of increasing responsibility. Valerie hold a BS in Business Administration and MBA in Finance both from the University of Delaware.
