Welcome from the Dean

August 26, 2019

Dear graduate students,

As we savor summer while fall approaches, I want to offer my own personal word of welcome to all of you as we embark upon the 2019-2020 academic year. The beginning of a semester is always an exciting time. The research and teaching that you engage in during this formative chapter of your academic development is an important and a memorable part of your integrated learning experience. Your unique role as student-leaders, mentors, and classroom instructors is a hallowed one.

Over the past two years as your dean, I have often said that that I am constantly energized by you and the knowledge that the students whom you mentor, the faculty you support, and the University community that you are a part of are all better for your contributions. Thank you once again.

We are proud that the financial, learning, and development support Loyola provides its graduate assistants continues to compare favorably with other leading Jesuit universities. Even so, we are focused on continuing to enhance our offerings to make sure they continue to meet your needs as Loyola graduate students. A full list of the enhancements we have made to enhance your time at Loyola as graduate students is available at Loyolaforyou.org.

As you begin on this next step in your academic journey, please know that my door is always open to you. I hope you will take that to heart. Whether you want to discuss a challenge you face, share something that concerns you, or just offer a suggestion, we are here to listen and to dialogue. By coming together with an open line of communication, we can make today and tomorrow better for you and for Loyola.
