Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a list of frequently asked questions about the 2018 Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium.
Who can participate?
All Loyola students who have conducted a research or community engagement project (through a course, independent study, fellowship, service-learning experience, academic internship, or student organization) are welcome to present their project in either an oral or poster presentation.
Where can I register and when is the registration deadline?
You can register for the 2018 Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium here. If you are presenting research or a community engagement project as a group, please select one group member to register for the conference. (There will be a space to list co-presenters on the registration form.) The registration deadline is Friday, March 16th at 11:59PM. Requests beyond that date cannot be guaranteed involvement in this year's symposium.
What should I expect during my session?
Poster sessions last 90 minutes. During the poster session, presenters should expect to deliver a brief presentation about their project and answer audience questions. You can find more information about preparing your poster presentation here.
Oral presentation sessions last 60 minutes and feature a panel of 3-4 presentations. Students participating in the oral presentation session should prepare a 15 minute presentation. (Audience question and answers should be built into your presentation time.) You can find more information about preparing your oral presentation here.
Can a group present?
Yes! We encourage both individual and collaborative presentations. If you are presenting as a group, please select one group member to complete the registration form for the whole group. There will be space available to list all co-presenters in the registration form. It is the responsibility of the group member registering for the symposium to share all conference communications with their co-presenters.
Can I present if my research or project has not been completed by April?
Yes! You do not need to have completed your project or collected final results in order to present. Students are welcome to present projects or research that are still in progress.
How do I create, submit, and/or print my poster?
To be printed in time for the symposium, all posters must be submitted no later than Saturday, April 14th by 11:59 pm. All students presenting at the 2018 Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium are welcome to print their posters for free through the LUROP program regardless of fellowship status.
