Statistics Career Night

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics recently hosted a career night and pizza party for undergraduate and graduate students interested in statistics careers. Six alumni representing 5 different companies spoke about their current positions and how they were successful in their job hunts. Students were given advice such as what to include in resumes, interview preparedness, and using connections.

Any student interested in actuarial science, applied statistics, predictive modelling, data analytics, big data, or data science was encouraged to attend the event. About 50 mathematics and statistics students were in attendance.

The alumni presenting also participated in a panel where students could ask questions.

Thank you to the following alumni for sharing their career stories:

  •         Ms. Tan Fong Chan, BCBS
  •         Mr. Andrew Guenther, BCBS
  •         Ms. Anne McCauley, PWC
  •         Mr. Nam Nguyen, comScore (analytics) and Penumbra (contract biostatistician)
  •         Mr. Ta Zhi Ong, National PT
  •         Ms. Sara Ring, Allstate

The career night was extremely helpful for our upperclassman and graduate students. We wish everyone luck with their job hunts!
