Master Sergeant Matthew Zepeda

MSG Zepeda was born on May 13, 1981 and is a native of San Diego, CA. He graduated from Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista, CA.  He entered the United States Army on Jan 9, 2002 and completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he earned the Military Occupational Skill of 11B, Infantryman.  He has served in a variety of positions in Mechanized, Stryker and Light Infantry Units to include Rifleman, RTO, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Ranger Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Company First Sergeant. He is currently serving as the Senior Military Science Instructor for Loyola University Chicago ROTC program.

MSG Zepeda is a combat veteran who has served honorably in Iraq, Korea, and Poland.  He took part in the surge, the stability phases and operation New Dawn.

His awards and decorations include 1 Bronze Star, 1 Meritorious Service Medal, 7 Army Commendation Medals, 6 Army Achievement Medals, Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Assault wings, the Ranger Tab and he is a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy club.
