Ignatian Heritage week Calendar of Events

IGNATIAN HERITAGE WEEK

Below is the list of events which will be held on the university campuses:

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3
8:00 PM: JESUIT JAM
Men's Basketball vs. Cleveland State
Gentile Arena
Loyola University Chicago students and fans are invited to attend the annual Jesuit Jam, one of the most popular promotions of each season, immediately following the Ramblers' men's basketball game versus Cleveland State. The first 500 Loyola students who attend the game will receive a free Jesuit Jam t-shirt. T-shirt distribution will take place at 7:30 PM up in the Rockstar Lounge of Gentile Arena for student with id's.

The post-game festivities in Gentile Arena on the Lake Shore Campus will feature free pizza and soda, as well as Jesuit trivia and entertainment. The Jesuit Jam is also a good opportunity to meet Loyola basketball players and coaches and mingle with the Jesuit community.
Loyola students are admitted free to men's basketball games with a valid ID. Friday's game versus Cleveland State will be televised nationally on ESPNU. This event is co-sponsored by the Jesuit Community and the Athletic Department.

The Ignatius of Loyola lecture considers a topic pertinent to Ignatian spirituality, an issue important to the Society of Jesus, or the work of a prominent, Jesuit scholar in an annual lecture that honors the spiritual charism and namesake of Loyola University Chicago.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14

All Loyola faculty staff, students and alumni welcome to join Vice Provost Nancy Tuchman, to lead an Examen of Conscience. Group discussion will follow regarding integrating Ignatian spirituality and practices into everyday life and work.

Ignatian Pedagogy encompasses the Affective, Intellectual and Practical components of a Commitment to Justice.  It is closely aligned with the Praxis Spiral Model of reflection or the see, judge, act approach that grew out of liberation theology: experience, reflection and action (see, judge, act). Come to this workshop to learn more!

9:30 PM: Taizé Prayer
LSC, Madonna della Strada Chapel
A liturgy filled with song, scripture and silent meditation.  The sanctuary is candlelit, making a space that is ready for meditative silence and song. The music of Taizé is repetitive and chant-like. The simple melodies wed to simple texts enable you to easily enter into the prayer and enter into a place of profound meditation. The service quickly grabs your intellect and promises to renew your spirit.

9:00 PM: That Thursday Night Thing (TNT) The Examen

Each Thursday evening, Campus Ministry sponsors an event for all students to build community and deepen faith by engaging different topics and activities. Fr. Mark Andrews, SJ will be leading an Examen of Conscience and Loyola Companions will be facilitating reflective discussion experiences of Ignatian spirituality from students' perspectives.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17

12:00 Noon: The Examen, An Ignatian Way of Reflection

Learn a style of reflection which is unique to St. Ignatius Loyola.  The Examen will be discussed and practiced in a group setting.  Discover a method of prayer which has transformed the lives of people for over 500 years.  Brown bag lunches are welcome.  Light refreshment and dessert provided.

In an effort to provide experiences to deepen purposeful reflection as noted in the DSD Strategic Plan, this Lunch-N-Learn will facilitate an Ignatian approach to reviewing one's day in light of finding God and being able to articulate the Examen format with ease and comfort. All University Staff are invited.
