The MMLA would like to congratulate the 2019 winner of the Undergraduate Student Paper Prize, Saiham Sharif of Grinnell College, for his paper "Reconciling the Double Self: The Sympathizer as Adaptation of Hamlet."

We also congratulate Allison Monterastelli of Loyola University Chicago, who received an Honorable Mention  for her paper "Inverted Tropes of Gender Performativity in The Wife of Bath’s Tale and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight." Allison Monterastelli is a third-year at Loyola University Chicago currently double majoring in Molecular Biology and English. Allison spends her time both working as a research project lead in the Biology Department, developing a potential cancer treatment using Photodynamic Therapy alongside her faculty mentor, along with working alongside her peers as a tutor for LUC’s Writing Center. Within the Writing Center, Allison co-chairs a committee dedicated to Research and Grant Writing. Following graduation, Allison plans to apply her research and tutoring experience to receive either a PhD or an MD in the hopes of continuing her research and academic career.
