What is New Student Convocation?
New Student Convocation is an annual tradition, where all new students (first-year and transfer) officially begin their academic careers at Loyola University Chicago. Students are welcomed to the university community by the President, Provost, faculty, staff, and student leaders. New Student Convocation is a celebration of university life and the academic traditions of Loyola. All new students attend this important event as part of Welcome Week.
New Student Convocation consists of three parts:
- Convocation Walk: a processional around campus;
- Convocation Address: new students hear from the author of the First-Year Text
- First-Year Text Discussions: small group conversations led by faculty and staff members and student leaders
