Dr. Poronsky is the director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program and teaches at the master’s and doctoral levels. She is teaching Nursing Leadership for DNP students. In the past she has taught advanced adult and pediatric health assessment and nurse practitioner courses in the management of common and complex problems of adults/older adults. She is the co-coordinator for the advanced practice primary care clinical courses, including management of clinical placements for NP students. Dr. Poronsky serves as academic advisor for graduate students in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. She is interested and engaged in mentoring students, including helping to guide students towards publication of their scholarly work.

Dr. Poronsky’s research interest is the transition from Registered Nurse (RN) to Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and the effect of mentoring. Her PhD Dissertation explored the effect of faculty mentoring on transition balance in Family Nurse Practitioner students. Additional research, supported in part by funding from the Ruth K. Palmer Memorial Endowment Fund, was conducted with focus groups to examine how nurse practitioner students experience the transition from RN to FNP during graduate school. Other interests and expertise: Dr. Poronsky provides primary healthcare as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is actively engaged in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of common health problems with patients across the lifespan.
