Research Interests

Dr. V. Ann Andreoni’s primary research interest is pediatric obesity. During her DNP program, she carried out a small scale study using both quantitative and qualitative measures to examine parents’ satisfaction with a standardized pediatric obesity intervention. Dr. Andreoni subscribes to the Health Belief Model and the use of motivational interviewing to promote behavior change, so she incorporates these concepts into her interventions. Dr. Andreoni is also interested in health in elementary schools and is collaborating with Dr. Colleen Andreoni and Dr. Gina Coffee on a study to implement an intervention with middle school students to decrease sex risk behaviors.

Dr. Andreoni is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner and a certified pediatric mental health specialist. She teaches Child and Family Health Promotion at the graduate level as well as supervises advanced practice nursing students in their pediatric practica. She also teaches community health concepts to the RN-BSN students, palliative care concepts to graduate students, and pediatric nursing to the undergraduate students. She enjoys both teaching online and face-to-face courses.

Dr. Andreoni spends 50 percent of her time in clinical practice in the School-based Health Center at Proviso East High School. She is responsible for community outreach to the elementary schools and has received grants to improve nutrition and increase physical activity opportunities in the schools. With these funds, they have implemented a universal breakfast in the classroom program, an in-classroom daily physical activity program, and many after-school activities such as health fairs, walking and running clubs, and healthy cooking clubs for kids. Dr. Andreoni also coordinates an in-school immunization program in the elementary schools, and was a recipient of the American Nurses’ Association Immunity Award in 2012.
