Summer Fellowship in Primary Care Nursing

 APPLY FOR SUMMER 2020 PRIMARY CARE NURSE FELLOWSHIPS!

This Summer Fellowship in Primary Care Nursing offers the opportunity for rising seniors to participate in an eight week fellowship in primary care working with the underserved. This Summer Fellowship is offered through ACCESS Community Health Network. 

The application for the Primary Care Summer Fellowship is due Friday, November 15, 2019. To be eligible for the Summer Fellowship, a nursing student will have to have completed Community Health in the Spring 2020 semester. Other eligibility requirements are noted on the application which is attached. IF you have any questions you should contact Dr. Solari-Twadell at psolari@luc.edu.

Primary Care Community Health Nursing Scholar (PCCHNS) Expectations, Requirements, Responsibilities, and Course Information 

Expectations:

  • Complete the application (go to PCCHNS Application Link) and meet with one of the leaders of the program.
  • Maintain good academic standing in the School of Nursing (GPA of 2.8 or above)

Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and complete required assignments and badges each semester (except the first semester of the year of the nursing program) in their designated educational track.
  • Each PCCHNS is required to participate in the designated experiential educational activity and any small group discussions identified for the semester.
  • Maintain good communication with fellow students and designated leaders in the program. If for some reason, a PCCHNS cannot attend the experiential or group activity they should contact Dr. Solari-Twadell (psolari@luc.edu) prior to the scheduled event to arrange for an alternative educational opportunity.

Service Learning Opportunities:

  • Pine Ridge Nursing, South Dakota: This immersion is part of Loyola's Alternative Spring Break program, and take place at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. This week will be a cultural immersion on the Pine Ridge Reservation with a focus on the health issues, primary care services as well as the impact cultural and environment has on the health of the Pine Ridge Community.  Evenings will be spent preparing dinner, having guest speakers or other cultural programs and reflection with the group (including the other Pine Ridge student group from LUC, which will be  working in the Red Cloud Schools).
